Before

During the pandemic our entire team was making paint by ourselves at home. I was making all of our blended colors on a 3 roll mill machine and had a lot of watercolor paint leftover from the paint making process. I wanted to use all of the wash on a big painting so I drew this image on a 22” x 30” piece of Arches watercolor paper. For weeks I worked in a cycle of making paint, cleaning up, and then using the color I made that day to fill in big washes on the painting. During that time, I wanted to stay with the feeling my niece evoked of the freedom felt running through the dunes in Pescadero right before the world shut down. CfM Iris, CfM Moss, CfM Cypress, Indigo and French Ochre Sahara were the first layers of color to go down and were the leftovers from the paint making process.
